President Calls for Stronger Focus on Vocational Education Across the Country

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has urged teachers to place greater emphasis on vocational education, highlighting its growing importance in preparing youth for the country’s evolving job market.

Speaking at the 27th annual sessions of the Lanka Guru Seva Sangamaya at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, the President announced that the government plans to establish a vocational training centre in every district, aiming to create broader pathways for students who wish to pursue practical and skill-based learning. He emphasised that the education system must go beyond academic achievements and recognise the value of technical and professional skills essential for national development.

The president stated that the upcoming budget will enhance allowances for teachers in schools classified as extremely tough, difficult, and isolated. According to him, there may be resistance to the change, but it must be made and the instructors’ cooperation is necessary. The president also promised that no revisions for which there is no public support would be approved by Parliament. He asserted that since laws are created for the benefit of the people, they will not be passed if the public opposes such changes.
