Nine Gateway College Students Selected to Represent Sri Lanka in Football, Squash, and Athletics

Gateway College proudly announces the selection of nine of its exceptional students to represent Sri Lanka on the international stage across three major sports: football, squash, and athletics. This remarkable milestone reaffirms Gateway’s commitment to holistic education that extends far beyond academic excellence.

SAFF U19 Football Championship 2025 — India

Gateway College continues to lead as the only international school playing in Division 1 of the All Island Schools’ Football League. In recognition of their outstanding talent and discipline, three Gateway footballers — Aidan Francis Perera, Nadal Aaron Senapala, and Anuk Shahil Dassanayake, have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the SAFF U19 Football Championship in India. Competing against South Asia’s finest young athletes, these students will proudly don the national jersey in this prestigious regional tournament.

Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships 2025 — South Korea

Gateway’s tradition of excellence in squash continues as five students earn national colours to compete at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships in South Korea. The selected players are TaveeshaGoonasekera (Girls Under 13), Manuth Dassanayake and Dillon Perukanda (Boys Under 15), and Sithumli Mendis and Chanumi Thebuwanna (Girls Under 15).

Their qualification reinforces Gateway’s position as a leading school in racquet sports, with a strong track record of developing athletes who perform with distinction on the international stage.

Asian Youth Athletics Championship 2025 — Saudi Arabia

In the field of athletics, Shanuka Costa represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Youth Athletics Championship held in Saudi Arabia. He made a notable impact by finishing 4th in the Medley Relay and reaching the semi-finals in the 400m. His success illustrates the potential of Gateway athletes to compete at the highest levels with the right training and support.
