Thinusha Bamunuarachchi Debuts Memoir Exploring Silence, Speech and Belonging

Sri Lankan author and communication advocate Thinusha Bamunuarachchi has released his debut literary memoir, I Still Have Something to Say, a personal account exploring themes of stammering, silence, identity, communication, and belonging.

Drawing from his own experiences, the book traces his journey from struggling to speak during a Grade 6 school debate to later addressing audiences across more than 70 countries through international dialogue and public speaking initiatives.

Rather than presenting stammering as a challenge to be simply overcome, the memoir reflects on living with difference, uncertainty, and an evolving relationship with voice, identity, and self-expression. The book also explores leadership, communication confidence, and personal acceptance.

Currently based in the United Kingdom, Thinusha Bamunuarachchi serves as a presenter and volunteer contributor with STAMMA. He was previously recognised as Outstanding Toastmaster of District 82, covering Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, and is the co-founder and Charter President of One Country One World, an international speaking initiative that connected participants from more than 70 countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

His work has included public storytelling, communication advocacy, speaking engagements, and participation in international dialogue initiatives focused on inclusion and lived experience. He also recently shared his story at the World Stuttering Network’s StutterFest global conference.

The memoir has received endorsements from several international speakers and professionals. Mark Hunter described it as “thought-provoking and well worth a read,” while Bill McMillan of STAMMA’s review team called it “one of the best books I have reviewed so far for STAMMA.” Margaret Page said the book “will stay with you, not because it is loud, but because it is true.”

A portion of the royalties from the book will be directed towards supporting STAMMA and a developing initiative aimed at assisting children who stammer in Sri Lanka.

I Still Have Something to Say is currently available in Kindle and paperback editions through Amazon.
