Honouring Tradition: Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebrations at OSC

On April 5th, The Overseas School of Colombo (OSC) transformed into a vibrant tapestry of blue hues as it hosted its annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations. The campus buzzed with an atmosphere of festivity as students, faculty, and parents joined hands to mark this auspicious occasion.

OSC’s commitment to embracing Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage was evident throughout the event. From traditional music echoing through the air to the tantalising aromas of festive delicacies, the celebrations were a true embodiment of unity in diversity.

The school’s emphasis on cultural integration is showcased through various initiatives such as the mother tongue programme, service-learning projects, and dedicated cultural celebrations. These efforts underscore OSC’s mission to instil in its students a profound appreciation for the diverse traditions that define our island nation.

As participants reflected on the significance of Sri Lanka’s age-old customs and the sense of community that binds them together, the message of togetherness echoed loud and clear. It is this spirit of unity that OSC endeavours to nurture, not just during festivities but throughout the year.

From all corners of OSC, the wish resonates – may the warmth and harmony experienced during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations linger, bringing forth prosperity and joy to all.
