Ruhuna University Faces Delay in Student Admissions, Highlighted in Parliament

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa recently raised concerns in Parliament over the delay in enrolling students to the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Ruhuna.

He noted that more than 200 eligible students are awaiting admission and have yet to receive a date to commence their academic activities. In contrast, parallel batches in other universities have already completed their first year, he said.

Mr. Premadasa directed the question to Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, seeking clarification on the matter. However, Dr. Jayatissa responded that the issue falls under the purview of Higher Education Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

According to Education Times sources, the delay is primarily due to a shortage of lecturers and inadequate facilities at the faculty.
