Gateway College Student Wins Gold at ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2025

Shaviru Kasthuriarachchi, a 13 year old student of Gateway College Colombo won the Gold Award in the Emerging Technologies Track (Secondary/Junior College Level) at the ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2025. Competing against over 13,000 students from 13 territories across Asia and the Pacific, Shaviru emerged as the only Sri Lankan medallist across all categories, bringing immense pride to both his school and the nation.

The ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2025, held over an eight-month period from March to October 2025, is one of the region’s most prestigious competitions celebrating digital competence and innovation. This year, it brought together over 13,000 students from more than 230 schools and institutions across 13 territories. Focused on practical digital skills aligned with global industry standards, the challenge enables students to demonstrate excellence in fields such as Emerging Technologies, Digital Design, and Business Productivity Tools.

Shaviru’s success in the Emerging Technologies Track highlights his creativity, problem-solving ability, and deep understanding of new-age digital tools, qualities that reflect Gateway’s 2025 theme, “Adopt Digital, Act Ethical.” His achievement embodies the school’s commitment to fostering responsible digital citizenship and empowering learners to use technology with purpose, innovation, and integrity.

Along with Shaviru, several other Gateway students distinguished themselves by qualifying for the Grand Final after excelling in theNational Round. They represented various branches of Gateway College across the island:

  • Hithaish Gajan – Gateway College Dehiwala (Primary Level)
  • Shakkya De Silva Sirisena – Gateway College Negombo (Secondary – Business Track)
  • Fathima Hafsa Mubassir – Gateway College Kandy (Secondary – Business Track)
  • DulainWanigasekara – Gateway College Colombo (Secondary – Emerging Technologies Track)

Gateway College Colombo also won an award for being the Social Impact Partner of the Year. These successes embody Gateway’s vision of developing globally minded, future-ready learners who lead with excellence in the digital age.
