Sri Lanka’s Cabinet has approved a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between local and foreign universities, paving the way for enhanced educational cooperation and global academic integration.

The initiative, proposed by Prime Minister Harinini Amarasooriya, aims to elevate the international standing of Sri Lankan universities and foster cross-border collaboration in research and education.

Newly Approved MoUs Include :

• University of Peradeniya will partner with the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the People’s Republic of China under a 5-year MoU focused on geoscience research and academic exchange.

• University of Kelaniya will collaborate with Bharathidasan University of India through a 3-year MoU aimed at joint academic programs and faculty development.

• University of Moratuwa has secured two 5-year MoUs with the Multidisciplinary Institute of Yokohama National University, Japan and the National Institute of Technology, Tokuyama School, Japan

These agreements mark a strategic step toward internationalizing Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape and expanding opportunities for students and researchers alike.
