MIM Convocation 2026 Celebrates 195 Graduates and a Historic First for Sri Lanka

The Maharaja Institute of Management (MIM), the educational arm of the Capital Maharaja Group, celebrated a significant milestone at its Convocation 2026, held on 5 June at Stein Studios, Ratmalana, where 195 graduates were conferred qualifications across a range of media, communication, and digital marketing disciplines.

A landmark achievement of the ceremony was the graduation of Sri Lanka’s first-ever batch of Master’s degree holders in Film and Television Production, awarded through MIM’s partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. The convocation also saw graduates receive qualifications in the MSc in Digital Marketing Management, the TVEC-accredited NVQ Level 05 Diploma in Electronic Media, and a range of professional certificate programmes in Programme Production, Radio and Television Presenting, and Dubbing.

The convocation was graced by Senior Professor P.M.C. Thilakaratne, Vice Chancellor of The Open University of Sri Lanka, as Chief Guest. Among the distinguished attendees were Mr. Sashi Rajamahendran, Chairman of the Capital Maharaja Group, Mr. Suresh Srinivasan, Group Director/CEO, Ms. Nedra Weerasinghe, Group Director/COO, together with Group Directors, senior management representatives, officials from the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), academic staff, parents, and well-wishers.

Addressing the graduates, Senior Professor Thilakaratne highlighted the importance of lifelong learning, innovation, creativity, and professional excellence in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven world, encouraging graduates to make meaningful contributions to their industries and society.

The ceremony also recognised exceptional academic achievement through the presentation of Excellence Awards at Master’s, Diploma, and Certificate levels.

Established in 2018, MIM is distinguished by a learning model that seamlessly integrates academic rigour with direct industry exposure. Supported by the Capital Maharaja Group’s extensive footprint across television, radio, digital media, content production, and communications, students benefit from practical insights and hands-on experience. This approach enables graduates to develop skills that are closely aligned with the evolving demands of the industry.

Through internationally recognised qualifications, strong academic partnerships, and access to one of South Asia’s leading media ecosystems, MIM continues to produce industry-ready professionals while broadening higher education opportunities in media and communication.

Looking ahead, MIM plans to expand its scope into emerging and future-focused disciplines, further enhancing its contribution to the education landscape. The institute remains committed to nurturing the next generation of creative, technical, and business leaders.
