Sabaragamuwa Province honours top 2025 A/L achievers under President’s Fund initiative

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial programme to recognise outstanding performers at the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, conducted by the President’s Fund to appreciate students who demonstrated exceptional academic performance at district level, was held yesterday (01) at the Ratnapura District Secretariat.

Under this initiative, 20 top performing students from each stream across the Ratnapura and Kegalle districts were honored, with each student receiving a financial grant of Rs. 100,000 alongside a certificate of appreciation.

Addressing the event, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne stated that in accordance with the government’s policy of “People First,” the President’s Fund is actively playing a broad role for the benefit of the citizens.

He emphasized that parliament is now structured to entrust the responsibility of leading the country with high discipline and integrity to educated and intelligent individuals, moving away from past political cultures. He called upon the student generation, who reap the benefits of free education, to enrich themselves with knowledge and good values, utilize their expertise for national development and step forward to shoulder future leadership.

Minister of Environment Dr. Dammika Patabendi noted that education goes beyond merely imparting knowledge to a child. He pointed out that fostering human values such as living cooperatively with others, loving the environment, and respecting religious and cultural diversity is also a core objective of education. Highlighting the current government’s vision to eliminate disparities in the education sector and ensure quality education and equal opportunities for every child, the Minister commended the contribution made by the President’s Fund toward this goal.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the President’s Fund, Roshan Gamage, also addressed the gathering. (Eduwire)
