Sri Lanka is set to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in South Korea on November 2 to implement vocational training and student exchange programmes.
Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe traveled to South Korea on October 30 alongside a delegation including Ministry Secretary S.M. Piyathissa and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Director General Duminda Jayalath to formalize the pacts.
The agreements are established between the Ministry of Labour, NIOSH, South Korea’s Gyeongsangnam-do Province, the Sacheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Changshin University, with prior approval already granted by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Under the initiative, Sri Lankan students selected by NIOSH operating under the Ministry of Labour will gain opportunities to pursue higher education at Changshin University. Additionally, the programme is designed to provide participants with post study employment opportunities in industrial establishments across Gyeongsangnam-do Province, along with options for long term residency.
