University of Sri Jayewardenepura Deepens Academic Ties with Russia at Eurasian Economic Youth Forum

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) marked a significant milestone in its internationalization journey by actively participating in the XV Eurasian Economic Youth Forum held in Yekaterinburg, Russia—an event that brought together academic leaders, diplomats, and students from across the globe.

Representing USJ at the forum were Vice Chancellor Prof. Pathmalal Manage and Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to fostering international academic collaboration and global dialogue.

New Scholarship Scheme for Russian Language Students

One of the key outcomes of this engagement is a new scholarship scheme launched in collaboration with USUE. Students currently pursuing the Professional Diploma in Russian Language at the Russian Language Centre, USJ, are now eligible to apply for scholarships to pursue Master’s and PhD programmes at USUE. This initiative reflects the deepening of academic ties and creates a valuable international pathway for USJ students seeking advanced studies in Russia.

Global Academic Leadership and Cultural Diplomacy

In addition to bilateral meetings, the USJ delegates participated in the prestigious Forum of Rectors of Universities of Russia and Foreign Countries, held at the Governor’s Residence, where academic leaders discussed strategies for strengthening global higher education networks and fostering academic solidarity.

They also joined the “Dialogue on Equal Terms”, an inclusive gathering of ambassadors, consuls, and students, aimed at promoting mutual understanding and cultural diplomacy. Furthermore, USJ’s involvement in the International Diplomatic Forum offered opportunities for engagement with public association leaders, business communities, and government representatives.

Looking Ahead

These engagements mark a significant step in USJ’s evolving role on the global academic stage. With new partnerships, scholarship opportunities, and cross-border academic exchanges in the pipeline, the university continues to empower its students and staff through global exposure, collaboration, and excellence in higher education.
