Deputy Minister of Education Madhura Senevirathna recently told that the recruitment of 23,000 teachers to fill vacancies in government schools is nearly complete, with official appointments scheduled for December.
Selected through an open competitive examination and an ongoing structured interview process, the new hires will fill teaching vacancies in primary section classes, G.C.E. Ordinary Level and G.C.E. Advanced Level grades, while also filling vacancies in schools under provincial councils.
To address the overall shortage of approximately 44,000 teacher vacancies in government schools, Deputy Minister Senevirathna stated that all remaining vacancies will be filled by Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) graduates and graduates from the Colleges of Education.
He said that the process to recruit these remaining teachers has already been initiated and the government will soon issue a gazette amending the Service Minute of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service to enable the recruitment of B.Ed. graduates. (Eduwire)
