The Ministry of Education has announced that the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination will be held as planned from November 25, 2024, to December 20, 2024, putting an end to speculation about a possible postponement.
In a statement, the Ministry acknowledged receiving requests from various parties to delay the exam. However, it emphasized that all preparations, including the printing of question papers, establishing regional collection centers, and setting up examination centers, have already been completed.
The Ministry also highlighted that the A/L examination schedule was officially announced on March 1, 2024, giving students and schools adequate time for preparation. A change at this stage, it noted, would cause significant disruption to the national examination calendar, particularly affecting the scheduling of the 2024 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination and other related exams.
The Ministry further stated that rescheduling the A/L exam would create widespread logistical issues and impact the smooth functioning of Sri Lanka’s education system.
Based on these factors, the Ministry of Education has confirmed that the A/L examination will proceed as planned, ensuring fairness and adherence to the academic calendar.
