Gateway College has achieved yet another historic milestone by becoming the first school in Sri Lanka to be recognised as an Approved Centre for OxfordAQA qualifications. This achievement further strengthens Gateway’s reputation as a pioneering institution at the forefront of educational excellence and innovation in the country.
OxfordAQA is an international examination board formed through the partnership between Oxford University Press (OUP) and AQA, the United Kingdom’s largest academic awarding body. The collaboration combines the academic heritage and global reputation of the University of Oxford with AQA’s extensive expertise in assessment and qualifications.
Oxford University Press, with a history spanning over 500 years, is one of the world’s most respected educational publishers and institutions, while AQA is renowned for delivering rigorous and internationally respected qualifications to schools across the UK and beyond.
Together, they have created OxfordAQA qualifications that place strong emphasis on critical thinking, conceptual understanding, and real world application of knowledge. These qualifications are increasingly recognised by universities and employers worldwide for their academic depth and modern approach to learning.
Prior to embarking on the approval process, Dr. Harsha Alles, Chairman of Gateway, engaged in extensive discussions with the leadership team of OxfordAQA regarding the future of international education, assessment standards, and the suitability of the qualifications for students in Sri Lanka. These discussions laid the foundation for Gateway College’s partnership with OxfordAQA and its successful recognition as an Approved Centre.
Gateway College becoming the first Approved Centre for OxfordAQA in Sri Lanka is another example of the institution’s longstanding commitment to introducing world class educational opportunities to its students. Over the years, Gateway has consistently led the way in bringing internationally recognised programmes, innovative teaching practices, and global educational standards to Sri Lanka. Recognised as one of the country’s leading educational institutions, Gateway College has built a strong reputation for academic excellence, holistic education, and global exposure. This latest recognition further reflects the confidence that internationally respected organisations place in Gateway’s academic standards and vision for the future of education in Sri Lanka.
