
Students of Gateway College delivered a commendable performance at the Sri Lanka Squash 45th Anniversary Championship 2026, held at the Sri Lanka Air Force Squash Complex from 3rd to 10th May 2026. The tournament brought together many of the country’s top junior and senior players, creating a competitive platform that tested skill, resilience, and sportsmanship.
Gateway’s young athletes rose confidently to the occasion, securing notable results across multiple categories. Chanumi Thebuwana emerged as the champion in the Girls Under 15 category, displaying excellent control, focus, and determination throughout her matches. Her performance stood out as she consistently outplayed her opponents to claim the title.
Sithumli Mendis demonstrated exceptional versatility and composure by competing across age groups. She secured second place in the Girls Under 19 category and went on to achieve an impressive fourth place in the Women’s Open division, where she competed against some of the most experienced players in the country. Her ability to perform at both junior and senior levels reflects her skill and competitive maturity.
In the boys’ division, Manuth Dassanayake delivered a dominant performance to claim the championship title in the Boys Under 17 category. His consistent play and tactical awareness were key to his success. Meanwhile, Yolen Withanage also competed strongly in the same category, finishing in seventh place and gaining valuable experience in a highly competitive field. In the younger age group, Ranuk Mendis put forward a commendable effort to secure 5th place in the Boys Under 13 category, demonstrating promising skill and determination. These achievements highlight Gateway College’s strong sporting culture and its commitment to developing well rounded students who excel beyond the classroom.
