
Zahira College, Colombo, celebrated the achievements of its top athletes at the Colours Awarding Ceremony 2024, held at the College Ghafoor Hall last weekend. The prestigious event honoured the sporting excellence of students for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, recognising their dedication, talent, and outstanding performances across multiple disciplines.
A total of 145 young sportsmen received Colours awards for their exceptional achievements in 13 sports, reflecting Zahira College’s strong sporting tradition and commitment to nurturing all-round excellence.

The ceremony was graced by Sri Lanka’s Olympic swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe (OLY), who attended as the Chief Guest on the invitation of Principal Trizviiy Marikkar. His presence added inspiration and national pride to the evening, motivating young athletes to aim higher in their sporting journeys.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year award to M.F. Muhammed, who has made headlines in Sri Lanka’s swimming arena. Muhammed was recognised for breaking several national swimming records and representing Team Sri Lanka at international competitions all while excelling in his studies at Zahira College.

The event was organised by the Sports Department of Zahira College, under the leadership of Zahrul Farook, former Consultant Prefect of Games on Special Assignment, whose efforts ensured a well-executed and memorable ceremony.
Among the distinguished attendees were Secretary to the Board of Governors Nuzri Munsoor, Chairman of the Sports Committee Jawfer Us Sadiq, President of the Old Boys Association Hazik Jaleel, teachers, parents, students, and old boys all gathered to celebrate Zahira’s proud legacy of sporting excellence.
