Message to the young Josephians from an Old Josephian

St.Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, is committed to offering a balanced and holistic education that not only prepares our students well for the school and the government examinations, but also nurtures them into people who live meaningful lives in the service of others in our Society, Motherland and the Universe.

In recognition of the school’s efforts to offer a high quality education, for the whole person, the College has not only done extremely well in its academic achievements, but also have won numerous awards for sports and Co-Curricular activities due to the effective systems and processes implemented successfully.

Josephians, affectionately addressed as “Joes”, refer to former and current students of St.Joseph’s College, Colombo 10. When a group of boys and men gather together, it is not difficult to differentiate Josephians from others because they have a lot in common.

The commonalities of Josephians have forged a strong bond among generations of Josephians, far and wide, now and then. Josephians are doing and daring. Being the advocates of “actions speak louder than words”, Josephians are down-to-earth and persistent and resilient.

In the face of challenges and setbacks, they strive hard to attain their goals with no flinch and fear. They are enthusiastic about thinking outside the box, bringing new solutions to old problems and overcoming obstacles one by one with perseverance. The Josephians are obedient to their teachers and get along with their fellow students and friends very well and loyal to their Alma Mater. Josephians are committed to excellence. They are dedicated, disciplined, trustworthy, laboriously working students and honest individuals who become valuable citizens of our Motherland.

Josephians are valiant and True. They are true to their standards and would not yield to go with the flow. When they are at the crossroads of life, they will not waver over possibilities. They judge with their wisdom and move forward with courage and determination.

Josephians are exponents of Labour and Virtue. “Work hard, play hard” is always their watchword. Whether they are gaming, competing, studying or working, they will do their utmost, pouring their blood, sweat and tears into completing thye task with perfection.

Apart from gaining remarkable achievements in life, Josephians also care about the people and things around them. They open their hearts to listen, share and render help and support to those in need.

The formation of these good qualities is not done overnight. It is attributed to the consolidated experience of our Visionary Reverend Father Rectors, past and the present, Priest Community and the Pedagogues and Educators, past and the present, who had dedicated to students’ education over the decades and the tireless effort of their successors to keep the ball rolling by providing opportunities to unveil students’ different potentials;equipping them with the skills to create, communicate and collaborate, communicate with others; connecting them with the community and the world; and living by the values of love, compassion and Catholic Faith to lead their life with purpose.

My dear Josephians, you are the pride of our College, the role models of the next generations.

Let your “Blue and White” spirit fly high and continue to excel in every aspect of your life with the school motto and the Josephian ethos always on your mind and in your heart.

We wholeheartedly thank our Patron, St. Joseph, for showering us with His chicest blessings.
