
Gateway College Dehiwala has brought pride to Sri Lanka with an outstanding performance at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO), held from 20th to 29th July 2025 in Azerbaijan. Competing against more than 250 participants from 68 countries, Nawid Nazar and Adhni Sulaim Ikram won bronze medals, marking a significant achievement for the country.
Sri Lanka’s five-member national team featured an impressive four representatives from Gateway College Dehiwala — Nawid Nazar, Adhni Sulaim Ikram, Ranithu Rishon, and Hibah Imran — alongside Linod Wickramage of Wycherly International School. The collective efforts of the team secured Sri Lanka the 34th position on the global stage.
At the competition, Singapore topped the medals table, followed by Canada in second place, while Russia and China shared third place.
The International Economics Olympiad is a prestigious global platform that challenges high school students in economics, business, and finance. It uniquely blends analytical and creative problem-solving skills, testing participants through rigorous assessments in economic theory, financial literacy, and innovative business case solutions.
