Gateway College is pleased to announce the establishment of a Teacher Exchange Programme with Wilderness School, Adelaide, Australia. As the only school in South Asia offering the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), Gateway considers this partnership with an established SACE school with consistently strong academic outcomes particularly significant. The exchange was facilitated through Gateway College’s partnership with SACE International.

Established in 1884, Wilderness School is Adelaide’s oldest independent girls’ school and a leading day and boarding school for girls from Reception to Year 12. The school’s strong academic performance is reflected in its 2025 graduating cohort, with 21% placed in the top 1%, 65% in the top 5% and 80% in the top 10% nationally.

For the two Gateway teachers who participated in the exchange in August this year, Wilderness School provided an ideal environment for exchanging ideas, professional practices and educational perspectives. During their visit, they were immersed in the life of the school through discussions with the leadership team, lesson observations, conversations with teachers, interactions with students and opportunities to experience the school culture firsthand.

Commenting on the visit, Gateway Teachers said, ‘one of the most striking observations was the strong emphasis placed on student agency from an early age. Students are encouraged to make decisions, express their ideas and progressively take greater ownership of their learning. The experience demonstrated how strong professional collaboration, thoughtful guidance and student agency can work together to strengthen teaching, learning and student outcomes’.

The exchange also provided Gateway teachers with an opportunity to reflect on what Gateway already does well, while identifying new approaches that could further enhance teaching, learning and the overall student experience. In January 2027, Gateway College will welcome two teachers from Wilderness School, bringing the exchange full circle and creating further opportunities for professional dialogue, classroom observation and shared learning. This reciprocal dimension is particularly valuable: both schools become learners, contributors and partners in an ongoing conversation about what education can and should look like.
