Defying Silence: The Literary Gazette Launches its Second Issue

The Literary Gazette was born as a passionate initiative to create a platform for Sri Lanka’s vibrant creative community to share and publish their work. As a subsidiary of The Literary Lounge—a Colombo-based book club known for going beyond traditional reading circles and often described by its members as a “group therapy club”—the magazine has quickly carved out a unique space in the local literary scene. Founded by Januli Bandara and spearheaded by Editor-in-Chief Sachinthani Ketakumbura, The Literary Gazette (TLG, as it is fondly known) has become a growing force driven by vision, creativity, and community.

An independent literary and arts magazine, TLG is primarily available in digital format via its website (https://www.tllsl.org/), and is released biannually. Each issue features a rich mix of content, including book and movie reviews, spotlights on local authors and artists, coverage of literary events, and a wide array of creative work. At its core, the magazine aims to provide a meaningful and accessible platform for emerging and established creatives alike to showcase their talents.

The debut issue of The Literary Gazette was launched on August 30, 2025, at Fairway Colombo, in the presence of a diverse and enthusiastic creative community. Titled “Fresh Pages,” the first issue symbolized new beginnings and the start of an exciting journey.

Since then, TLG has actively engaged with Sri Lanka’s literary and artistic circles—attending events, collaborating with creatives, and building a strong, supportive network. This consistent effort has earned the magazine both recognition and genuine appreciation within the community.

Building on this momentum, The Literary Gazette is now set to launch its much-anticipated second issue under the theme “Defying Silence through Creative Expression.” Reflecting the realities of today’s world, the theme resonates deeply with the need for expression, voice, and artistic freedom.

The second issue will be officially launched on April 26, 2026, at Glayze Café, Nugegoda, from 6:30 p.m. onwards. The event promises to be a celebration of Sri Lanka’s rich creative talent and an opportunity to bring these voices to a wider audience.
