The second cohort of the short-term internship programme for final-year BAMS students (2018/2019 academic year) was successfully completed at Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort in Japan. This initiative is a collaboration between the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine and Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort.
Established under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on August 11, 2023, the programme is designed to provide comprehensive internship training to BAMS students, foster research collaborations, and develop extension programmes in indigenous medicine between Sri Lanka and Japan.
The internship aims to enhance students’ knowledge, practical skills, and professional attitudes within Ayurveda-based wellness tourism. Participants gain hands-on experience through interactive sessions, skill development activities, and exposure to real-world wellness tourism practices.
In the first intake, 105 students completed the programme, while the second intake comprised 36 students, of whom 14 were awarded certificates for their participation.
The certificate awarding ceremony took place at the College House, with the presence of Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Dean of the Faculty Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, CEO Saman Priyankara, executive members of Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort, the international unit coordinator, and the coordinator of the CGU of the Faculty.
