The Ministry of Education launched its inaugural programme to grant vouchers for the purchase of sanitary napkins at the President’s Girls College in Nawala today.
According to Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, an investment of Rs. 1 billion has been allocated for this programme, with the view of encouraging school attendance.
Accordingly, a voucher of Rs. 1,200 will be given per schoolgirl under the sanitary napkin programme.
The Ministry of Education has already organized the necessary activities to provide the vouchers through schools.
Under the programme, the Ministry of Education has taken steps to provide vouchers to buy sanitary napkins for 06 months starting from June 2024.
Sanitary napkins will be provided via vouchers for the 07 national schools belonging to the estate school category and all the provincial schools from the entire student population of Sri Lanka.
