Top official arrested over Grade 5 exam paper leak

The Director of the Planning Division at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Maharagama has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the controversial Grade 5 Scholarship examination paper leak.

According to the Police Spokesman, the arrest follows an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the exam, including the leak of the question paper.

The Grade 05 Scholarship Examination was held on September 15 with 323,879 students sitting for the exam.

However, a practice paper with questions similar to some of the questions in the first paper of the scholarship exam was circulated by a tuition teacher in the Alawwa area prior to the exam.

The Department of Examinations launched an investigation into the matter following complaints filed by various parties.

Accordingly, with the agreement of the panel of experts who prepared the question paper, the Examination Department decided to give the final marks after removing the relevant 03 questions. (Newswire)
