OxfordAQA, a partnership between Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford, and AQA, the UK’s largest provider of GCSEs and A-levels, has announced the launch of its new International GCSE Digital and Information Technology (DIT) qualification. This modern qualification builds on the foundations of traditional Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s digital world.
Developed in consultation with Sri Lankan international schools, OxfordAQA qualifications are meticulously aligned with UK standards – with International GCSE DIT combining academic rigor with a practical, project-based approach to learning. By focusing on developing technical and creative digital skills in real-world contexts, the qualification equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to support progression to further study and the workplace.
This unique approach enables students to demonstrate their learning through both examinations and extended practical projects. Working across contemporary contexts such as data, digital content, business and social impact, students develop the confidence, capability and problem-solving skills valued in higher education and the workplace.
OxfordAQA’s Country Director for Sri Lanka, Panchalika Kulatunga, said: “We’ve seen growing demand from schools across Sri Lanka for qualifications that reflect how digital skills are used in the real world. This new DIT qualification gives students the opportunity to build practical capability, while also providing teachers with a more flexible and manageable approach to delivery.”
Managing Director, Andrew Coombe, added: “We are committed to providing qualifications that meet the evolving needs of international schools while maintaining the high standards associated with UK education. Our new Digital and Information Technology qualification is a valuable addition to our portfolio, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in a rapidly changing digital world.”
As the fastest-growing international exam board, OxfordAQA now supports more schools in more countries than ever before. Its student-focused approach ensures assessments test subject ability alone, using clear language and culturally relevant content to give every learner the best opportunity to succeed. OxfordAQA is also part of the Oxford International Programme, a holistic approach to education for students aged 2–19 that fosters a culture of wellbeing and a love of learning and equips learners with the skills and attitudes students need for future personal, academic and career success.
“We’re proud to work with schools around the world to help every student build strong foundations for whatever they choose to do next,” added Andrew Coombe.
