Grade 6 English textbook issue: Several Educational officials suspended

The Deputy Director General of the National Institute of Education (NIE), Darshana Samaraweera, has been placed on compulsory leave in connection with the controversy surrounding the Grade 6 English language module.

Two other NIE officials have also been suspended over the same issue. Earlier, NIE Director General Prof. Manjula Vithanapathirana stepped down from her post pending the outcome of an internal inquiry.

The Ministry of Education suspended the distribution of a newly printed Grade 6 English module after it was confirmed that the content included a reference to an inappropriate website. The textbook, prepared and already printed by the NIE, came under scrutiny following a formal complaint.
