St. John Paul II English Medium College, located in the Wennappuwa Education Division of the Chilaw Education Region, has achieved a historic milestone by securing 1st place at the All Island Schools Music Competition 2025 for the first time in the school’s history.
The school earned this prestigious recognition in the Instrumental Solo (Special) – Blowing Instrument (Saxophone Solo) category, under the International / Private Schools division, at the All Island Schools Music Competition organized by the Aesthetic Branch of the Ministry of Education.
This remarkable achievement is particularly significant as it marks the very first time that St. John Paul II English Medium College participated in the All Island Schools Music Competition and went on to secure the top national position.

Representing the school, Grade 11 student Nethmi Meleesha excelled at every stage of the competition, securing 1st place at the Zonal Level (Chilaw), Provincial Level (North Western), and National Level in the Instrumental Solo (Special) – Blowing Instrument (Saxophone Solo) category. Supporting her performance were fellow students Sanahasa Imandiv, Romain Vibodha, Kane Fernando, Shenol Fernando, and Sadew Chamodh.
The success was made possible through the talent and dedication of the students, guided by the expertise of Western Music teacher Mrs. Dinithi Nissanka and coach Mr. Suneth Jayasanka, together with the encouragement and leadership of the school principal, Rev. Fr. Susiri Shantha Jayakody.
