The national selection trials, organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union from 8th to 10th May at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex, brought together the country’s finest young aquatic talent. After three days of fierce competition, Lithum and Hashel secured their spots in the national squad.
Competing in the Under-19 category, Lithum De Silva qualified for the 200m Freestyle and both the 4×100m and 4×200m Freestyle relays. His most commanding performance came in the 200m Freestyle, where he posted a time of 1:57.80, earning 649 World Aquatics points. This will be Lithum’s second appearance at the Asian Age Group Championships, having represented Sri Lanka at the 2024 edition, adding valuable international experience to his growing profile.
In the Under-15 category, Hashel Senarath has announced himself emphatically on the national stage. He earned selection across the 50m, 100m, and 200m Butterfly, as well as multiple relay events.
