Eight Sri Lankan hospitality students from the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) have commenced an internship programme at The Ned Doha, a luxury hotel and private members’ club in Qatar.
Initiated by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha in collaboration with the hotel, the initiative will accommodate a total of 12 selected students to gain practical international experience in front office operations, housekeeping and culinary arts. The first batch began training on October 25, 2026.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe, attending the World Investment Forum 2026 in Qatar, participated in the inauguration ceremony alongside Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Qatar, Sithara Khan. The Deputy Minister highlighted government efforts to build a skilled tourism workforce through global training and urged the hotel to expand the intake in future years.
Massimiliano Binda, Managing Director of The Ned Doha, noted that over 40 Sri Lankan professionals are currently employed at the property. He commended their contributions and proposed establishing a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue and scale the internship programme. (Eduwire)
