Schoolbooks, Equipment and Scholarships to Children of Parliamentary Staff Members

A child’s well-developed mind makes them skilled and produces people who resist  fraud, according to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. He claimed that the impending new educational changes would provide kids the chance to grow intellectually.

He made these remarks at a recent ceremony in parliament to award schoolbooks, equipment, and scholarships to the children of parliamentary staff members. The Parliamentary Staff Welfare and Special Projects Committee organized this program.

Secretary-General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary-General Chaminda Kularatne, and Assistant Secretary-General Hansa Abeyrathne also participated.

Mrs. Rohanadeera shared that the program has been carried out consistently for many years, and each year it has been beneficial as well as successful.

According to Mr. Abeyrathne, Chairman of the Staff Welfare and Special Projects Committee, education is an investment, and it is an honor to be a shareholder in that investment,. He also added that despite obstacles, this program, which was started in 1996, has managed to go uninterrupted amidst challenges.

Children of 375 employees received sets of 587 books and children who achieved cut-off scores on the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, those who performed exceptionally well on their first try at the GCE Ordinary Level Exam, and those who won national and international competitions in the arts, sports, and culture while still in school were all awarded scholarships.
