Celebrating Innovation in Design : Uvinya Munasinghe Wins “Bench It” 2025

The City School of Architecture is shining with pride as one of its talented students, Uvinya Munasinghe, nailed the top spot in the Geoffrey Bawa Trust’s prestigious “Bench It” Design Competition 2025. Her award-winning design, titled “Rooted in Stillness,” was selected for its exceptional conceptual clarity, deep contextual relevance, and practical buildability—qualities that echo the very spirit of Geoffrey Bawa’s architectural legacy.

Uvinya’s design will soon take its place at a prominent location: the entrance of the Bawa Space at 42/1 Horton Place, Colombo 07. The bench will serve as both a functional structure and a symbolic gesture, welcoming visitors to the Trust’s archives, library, and exhibition areas. Its presence will stand as a tangible reminder of thoughtful, site-sensitive design—an ethos championed by Bawa himself.

This achievement not only highlights Uvinya’s creative brilliance but also shines a light on the future of Sri Lankan architecture. As emerging designers like her carry forward the torch of innovation and heritage, the architectural community looks forward to more such inspiring contributions.

Congratulations, Uvinya—your journey has only just begun!
