Outstanding Success for Gateway at the Sri Lanka Indoor Rowing Nationals

Gateway College recorded a stellar performance at the Sri Lanka Indoor Rowing Nationals 2026, held on

total medal haul of 17 Golds, 10 Silvers, and 1 Bronze across all junior, youth, and mixed categories.
Gateway athletes demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork that reaffirmed the
school’s growing prominence in the national rowing scene.

The championship began on a golden note as Jaanya Kumarawadu clinched the top spot in the Under 19
Girls Individual event, setting the tone for what would be a weekend of triumphs. The Under 14 Girls
Relay team—Siyara Rajakaruna, Shehaya Pathirana, Devasha Edirisinghe, and Griyada
Hapukotuwa—followed suit with a dominant Gold-winning performance.

Strong individual contributions continued to bolster Gateway’s medal tally. Treyden Gunasekara and
Siyara Rajakaruna both secured Silver in their respective Under 14 Individual events. Jaanya

their way to Silver. Ganindu Kirinde also delivered a commendable performance with a fifth-place finish
in the Under 19 Boys Individual category.

team of Jaanya Kumarawadu, Sehasa De Silva, Nathon Gregory, and Ganindu Kirinde secured Gold, as
did the Under 16 Boys Relay team of Treyden Gunasekara, Chanuth Peiris, Ometh Pathirana, and

leadership in sustaining a proud tradition of sporting excellence.
