Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C.  facilitates partnership between NSBM Green University and American University

The NSBM Green University Sri Lanka and the American University (AU) Washington, D.C. formalized an academic partnership, marking a significant milestone in the US-Sri Lanka educational collaboration. This initiative was spearheaded by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C., under the leadership of Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe.

Through this partnership, the Sri Lankan students enrolled at NSBM will have the opportunity to transfer to the American University to complete a US-accredited bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

The official signing ceremony took place on 04 April 2025 at the NSBM Green University in Homagama, Sri Lanka, in the presence of Ambassador of the U.S. to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung. The agreement was formally signed by Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business at NSBM, Thilini De Silva and Director of International Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives of the American University, Tashina Giraud.

This partnership also reflects the mutual commitment of both countries to fostering affordable, high-quality, and globally competitive educational opportunities for Sri Lankan youth.

Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe commended the collaborative spirit of both institutions and expressed confidence that this initiative will pave the way for future academic and research partnerships between Sri Lankan and U.S. universities.

The Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to the American University and NSBM Green University for their proactive engagement and shared vision in making this partnership a reality.

Further, the Embassy remains committed to promoting people to people exchanges and strengthening educational diplomacy as a cornerstone of Sri Lanka U.S. bilateral relations.
