Most major education projects in Sri Lanka are currently at a standstill, with only a few showing tangible progress. Out of 18 large-scale initiatives aimed at upgrading schools, improving teacher training, and modernizing curricula, only five are moving forward, while several others need urgent intervention to stay on track.
This slowdown poses a risk to the country’s efforts to enhance educational quality and accessibility, particularly in rural and underserved regions. Experts caution that without prompt action, the investments may not yield the expected outcomes, revealing a persistent gap between policy goals and on-the-ground implementation.
