In line with this trend. the City School of Architecture offers a Foundation Course, tailored to guide aspiring youngsters towards a thriving career in architecture. This course is specifically designed for school leavers who may not directly qualify for the normal entry path to a degree program in a university, but very keen to pursue a career in architecture.

The Foundation Course provides a unique opportunity for students passionate about creative design, nurturing both intellectual and artistic abilities through exposure to diverse media and disciplines. Set in an intimate studio-based environment ideal for learning, experimentation and idea generation, the course encourages students to explore their individual interests while emphasizing the joy of the design process. With hands-on instruction in creative thinking students build confidence in expressing their unique approaches. This fosters self-critique, motivation, and skills that will guide them towards formal education in Architecture.

Building A Creative Powerhouse

The course, led by experienced tutors and visiting practitioners in Architecture and related creative fields, provides a cross-disciplinary education. Beyond the core design curriculum, students acquire supportive skills in creative expression, IT, graphic design, mathematics, and socio-cultural understanding related to design. A “Placement Experience” within design-oriented practices equips them with a rich set of soft skills, empowering them for their future in architecture. Upon completion, students build a portfolio documenting their journey, ready to showcase their development and creativity.

Seamless Transition to Higher Education

The program is ideal for those seeking a strong design foundation before pursuing an undergraduate diploma/degree at the City School of Architecture. Successful completion of the Foundation Course serves as an alternative to the conventional entry requirements which includes 3 passes in the G.C.E. Advanced Level, and passing the aptitude test and the interview.  Students having 2 AL passes and a portfolio that demonstrate the creative potential and eligible to apply.
