To make vocational education more accessible and inclusive, under the patronage of Honorable Prime Minister, Ms. Harini Amarasuriyathe, Ministry of Education has launched a new hotline, 1966, that operates in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower students, job seekers, and parents with timely information about technical and vocational education and training (TVET) opportunities. The launch event was held at Nipunatha Piyasa in Narahenpita.
The hotline serves as a centralized resource for guidance on available courses and training programs, details about enrollment procedures and eligibility and information on career pathways and job prospects
By offering support in all three national languages, the ministry aims to eliminate language barriers and ensure that individuals from diverse backgrounds can easily access vocational education services. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to skills development and workforce readiness, especially in underserved regions.
The hotline is now active and can be reached by dialing 1966 from any phone within Sri Lanka. It is expected to play a key role in connecting citizens with educational resources that match their interests and career goals.
The Deputy Minister for the Vocational Education sector, Mr. Nalin Hewage, and other senior Ministry officials were also present at the inauguration.
