Case Clash, Case Study Competition by Imperial College of Business Studies

In an era where global business landscapes evolve at breakneck speed, bridging foundational academic theory with high stakes practical application is vital. To cultivate this real world agility among young scholars, the Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS), in dynamic collaboration with Chokolaate, hosted Case Clash a premier case-based pitch competition designed specifically for post-O/L and current A/L students. Across two intense rounds in July, seven ambitious teams averaging ten students each convened to tackle complex, simulated corporate dilemmas in the rapidly expanding Electric Vehicle (EV) sector. Representing Iman Academy, Gateway College Colombo, Gateway College Negombo, Muslim Ladies’ College (MLC) across three teams, and Hejaaz International School, these delegates brought formidable energy to the arena.

The inauguration commenced on July 16th at the ICBS Auditorium, gathering over eighty students alongside school teachers, college staff, and distinguished guests. Opening the proceedings, Mr. Pravinth Rajarathnam, Academic Director at ICBS, delivered an inspiring keynote addressing the transformative power of modern education and adaptive problem solving. Following a randomized chit-shuffle system to dictate presentation orders, the seven teams were split across three dedicated rooms for the elimination round. Contestants were challenged to devise market-entry and competitive positioning strategies for Voltura a fictional EV manufacturer locked in direct competition with market leader Ampereon. Navigating this scenario under the sharp evaluation of Senior Lecturers Mr. Ovin Bimsara and Mr. Damien Labroy, alongside Lecturer Ms. Deepshika Rajendran, four exceptional teams secured their spots in the finals: Iman Academy, Gateway College Colombo, and two teams from MLC.

The climax of the competition unfolded on July 27th as the event reconvened at the main ICBS Auditorium for its grand finale. Setting aside the preliminary narrative, the four finalists faced a fresh, highly technical challenge focused on supply chain management, sustainability, and breakthrough innovations in EV battery technology. Presenting on a unified stage before an engaged audience of peers and educators, the scholars defended their strategic models against a panel composed of Senior Lecturers Mr. Ovin Bimsara and Ms. Esha Kothalawala.

Following rigorous deliberation, Iman Academy claimed the ultimate title of Case Clash Champions alongside the top prize of LKR 80,000. Muslim Ladies’ College secured second place, earning the Best Strategists Team award and LKR 40,000, while Gateway College Colombo earned third place as the Best Presenters Team with LKR 30,000. The accolades were formally presented by the three Directors of ICBS, drawing the event to a triumphant close amidst glowing testimonials and widespread acclaim. By providing a launchpad where high school intellect meets executive-level strategy, ICBS and Chokolaate have established a benchmark for academic excellence, with momentum already building for the next edition of Case Clash.
