
A delegation from the Young South Asian Leaders Initiative (YSALI) recently paid a visit to Sri Lanka’s parliament.
Eighty representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are part of the delegation, which attended the Young South Asian Leaders Regional Workshop in Colombo.

The delegation had a meeting with Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne where he described the role of parliament and the significance of the younger generation’s participation to the “‘current socio-political transformation taking place in the country.”. As the young community of South Asia, these young delegates have the obligation of offering leadership, he stated, adding that the current youth generation, which has inherited technology, has a responsibility to create the world a better place.

In addition to answering questions from delegates, he also spoke about developing regional diplomatic ties, fostering social harmony in the area, and strengthening regional cooperation within South Asia.
