On Saturday, 20th September, Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS) proudly welcomed its newest cohort of undergraduates with a series of induction events that celebrated both academic ambition and student life. The day marked the beginning of a transformative journey for students who are set to pursue globally recognized UK degrees through Imperial’s long-standing partnerships.

Academic Orientations

The day began at the Imperial College Colombo campus, where two formal orientation sessions were held.

The first session introduced the BA (Hons) International Business & Financefrom University of the West of Scotland (UWS)students to their academic journey. They were warmly welcomed into the Imperial family by Dr. Ganeshamoorthy, Academic Dean of ICBS, and Dr. Royston Cumine, Assistant Academic Dean of ICBS, who shared valuable insights on academic excellence and the opportunities ahead.

In parallel, students of the BSc (Hons) Business Management (specialising in International Business, Marketing Management, and Human Resource Management) from Queen Margaret University (QMU), along with students from the SQA International Specialised Diploma and International Certificate programmes, were also inducted. This orientation was graced by Mr. Praveen Namasivayam, Head of Student Recruitment & Services, and Mr. Ahnan Zuhair, Assistant Manager – Recruitment, who offered guidance on embracing their academic pathways with determination and vision.

As a token of welcome, each student received an Imperial-branded backpack, symbolising the start of their journey as part of the Imperial family.

ICBS Freshers’ Eve

Following the orientations, students were directed to the Renuka City Hotel for the much-anticipated Freshers’ Eve.

The event began with an engaging session led by Ms. Chanusha Jayawardane, Head of Student Activities, who elaborated on the vibrant life at Imperial beyond the classroom, from extracurricular activities to leadership opportunities.

The evening then unfolded into a celebration, with fun activities and interactive games organised by the ICBS Student Council and the Rotaract Club of ICBS, creating an atmosphere of joy, camaraderie, and new friendships. The evening concluded with refreshments for all participants, leaving students with lasting memories of their very first day as proud members of the Imperial community.
