A group of parents of Grade 6 students in 2026 staged a protest in front of the Ministry of Education, demanding the implementation of the proposed educational reforms related to Grade 6.
It is reported that, in addition to the parents, young children also joined the protest today.
During the demonstration, the protesters emphasized that apart from the problematic English module, the other subject modules should also be taught to the children.
“We want to ask the government if the teachers are willing to teach, and if all modules, except the problematic English module, have no issues, and if the children are also keen to learn, and the parents also are ready for the change, why is the government taking back the books distributed to the children?” one protester said.
“Don’t play with the lives of children. Keep politics for political arenas. Teachers and principals have endorsed this reform as a good change. People can’t play with the lives of our children due to their personal agendas. We request that this new module system be introduced to our children as soon as possible. The failure to do so is an injustice to our children,” another protester said.
