Kavan Amarasinghe, an 18-year-old student of Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha, has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning a Gold Award at the 2025 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition (QCEC). His win is particularly noteworthy as it marks his third consecutive recognition in the world’s oldest international writing competition, having previously earned a Silver Award in 2023 and a Bronze Award in 2024.

The 2025 edition of the competition received an astounding fifty thousand plus entries from students across the Commonwealth’s 56 member nations, underscoring the scale and prestige of Kavan’s accomplishment. Over the years, he has demonstrated exceptional commitment to honing his craft, consistently producing thoughtful, imaginative, and impactful work. Kavan’s achievement brings pride not only to Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha but also to the broader Sri Lankan and expatriate communities in Qatar. His accomplishment serves as an inspiration to young writers across the region, proving that dedication to learning and creative expression can open doors to global recognition.
