The Western Junior Choir of Springfield College, Kandy, has emerged as the national champion at the All-Island Western Music and Dance Competition 2026, organised by the Ministry of Education.

The victory marks a proud milestone for the college, reflecting the talent, dedication and teamwork of its young choristers.

The choir’s journey to the championship began in early June, when the students embarked on an intensive programme of rehearsals in preparation for the competition. Through consistent practice, discipline and a shared passion for music, the young performers worked tirelessly to perfect their vocal harmony and presentation.

Their efforts first earned them first place at the provincial-level competition, securing their place at the all-island finals. Building on this success, the choir continued to refine its performance, demonstrating remarkable commitment and perseverance as it prepared to compete against the best in the country.

At the national competition, the Springfield choristers impressed the judges and audience with their performance, ultimately securing first place and winning the championship trophy.

This achievement is a testament not only to the musical ability of the students but also to the guidance and dedication of their teachers-in-charge, the encouragement of the Principal and staff, and the support of parents and well-wishers.

The historic victory has brought immense pride to the Springfield College community, highlighting the importance of nurturing artistic talent and providing students with opportunities to excel beyond the classroom. The Western Junior Choir’s success stands as a celebration of the power of teamwork and the unifying spirit of music, with the students’ individual voices coming together to create one glorious harmony.
