New Pathways to New Zealand Degrees for A/L Science Students at GISM Campus

Sri Lankan students from the A/L Mathematics and Bio-Science streams have long faced fierce competition for state university placements in Engineering and Science, a hurdle that often threatens their aspirations of becoming engineers, scientists, or medical professionals.

To address this, the Graduate Institute of Science and Management (GISM) has partnered with Massey University, New Zealand, to offer a practical and affordable university pathway. Through this collaboration, students can begin their undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Sri Lanka and then transfer seamlessly to Massey to complete internationally recognized degrees, a significant cost-saving opportunity.

Massey University is globally respected for its strong programs in Engineering, Science, Agriculture, and Business, and boasts well-equipped labs, research-led teaching, and industry connections. Graduates are highly sought-after by employers both in New Zealand and overseas.

Some key advantages of the GISM–Massey pathway include:

  • Affordability – Substantial tuition savings by studying the initial years in Sri Lanka (e.g., over 16 million rupees can be saved for Engineering students).

  • Academic alignment – Curricula are designed to match international standards for a smooth credit transfer.

  • Global recognition & employability – Degrees awarded by Massey are internationally acknowledged and valued by global employers.

Supporting student success, Professor G. G. Senaratne, Dean of Engineering at GISM, affirmed that the institute is committed to unlocking the potential of Sri Lankan students through this global pathway.

GISM has already produced several success stories, such as Ms. Pudara Randini Perera, who began at GISM and graduated with First-Class Honors in Mechatronic Engineering from Massey.

Additionally, GISM and Massey launched the Sri Lanka–New Zealand Friendship Forum on Education, Research, and Development, bolstering bilateral cooperation and innovation in academic fields.
