SLIIT unveils a brand-new specialization – BSc in Artificial Intelligence


The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) has a brand-new specialization in Artificial Intelligence for the BSc (Hons) in IT degree. The groundbreaking programme marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s higher education sector, particularly as SLIIT is a non-state university.

Recognizing Artificial Intelligence as the future of education and technological innovation, SLIIT has designed the four-year BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence degree programme to meet the growing demand for AI experts in the face of rapid technological advancements. The curriculum combines wide-ranging theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience, culminating in a final year Research Project.

The program stands out for its comprehensive curriculum emphasizing cutting-edge areas such as data analytics, neural networks, and intelligent systems, ensuring students are well-versed in the latest technological advancements. With a strong focus on academic excellence, the programme integrates practical training and industry certifications to prepare students for real-world challenges. Endorsed by the UGC, the degree will uphold SLIIT’s high educational standards which are widely recognized for nurturing knowledgeable and skilled professionals.

Graduates of the programme will be well-positioned for exciting careers in AI development, data science, robotics, and ML Engineer positions, among other front-line fields. With the initiative, SLIIT reaffirms its commitment to providing forward-thinking education that meets the evolving needs of the technology sector while placing Sri Lanka as a hub for AI innovation and expertise.

Admission to the program requires 3 A/L passes in one sitting in any stream of study.
