Piliyandala Central College Student Parliament at Old Parliament Building, Colombo

The inaugural session of the Piliyandala Central College Student Parliament was held at the Old Parliament building in Colombo.

The session was commenced with the election of the Speaker. The Prime Minister was then sworn in along with the other ministers and members of parliament. The proposals to be implemented under their separate ministries were then presented to the House by each Student Parliament Minister.

Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera explained the parliamentary process and its functions in order to provide students with insights into values and principles of Parliament.

M. Jayalath Perera, the Director of Legislative Services and Acting Director of Communication also highlighted the obligations and composition of Parliament, enriching students’ awareness of how Parliament operates.

Students who represented the Student Parliament were awarded certificates.

The programme was attended by Assistant Director of the Presidential Secretariat Major Nadika Dangolla, Principal of Piliyandala Central College H Maheshika Wijayaratne, members of the academic staff of Piliyandala Central College, and several officials of the Communications Department of Parliament.
