The Science-Industry Interaction Cell (SIIC), the main industry outreach arm of the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya, together with the Career Guidance Unit (CGU), Faculty of Science, Society of Industrial Relations and Entrepreneurship Development (SIRED), and Applied Sciences Society recently hosted their annual career fair at the Faculty of Science premises, providing the opportunity for representatives from private sector industries and Science Faculty students and recent graduates to connect and share insights into internship and employment opportunities in a variety of fields.
The event was sponsored by 15 companies with A Baur & Co (Pvt) Ltd. being the main sponsor.
The chief guests, acting Vice Chancellor of University of Peradeniya Prof Lilantha Samaranayake, Dean, Faculty of Science Prof Sanath Rajapakse, Director, Postgraduate Institute of Science Prof Nanda Balasooriya, Director of Business Linkage, Innovation, Incubation and Technology Transfer Office, University of Peradeniya, Prof Darshana Yapa, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, Prof Dileep De Silva Director of the Career Guidance Unit – Faculty of Science, Dr Ashwini Amarasinghe, Director of Science-Industry Interaction Cell (SIIC), Dr Piyumali K Perera, academic staff members of Faculty of Science, and invitees from 14 companies were present at the inauguration ceremony.
The Industry Day event was followed by two Pre-Industry Day workshops organized by SIIC, SIRED, and the Applied Sciences Society, enhancing student engagement to improve their skills and gain insights from the industry experts. This first workshop, conducted by Nepa Wickramasinghe, Assistant Manager of Business Support at MAS Kreeda, with the participation of over 80 students, was aimed at developing student understanding on the areas of CV writing, personal branding, and interview mastery.
The next workshop, “Nextgen Career Prep 2025”, conducted by Embla Software Innovations with the participation of over 70 students succeeded in helping students build a strong CV and LinkedIn profile, improve their interview skills, understand the fundamentals of Agile and Scrum, gain insights into workplace culture and generational dynamics, and actively engaged in interactive sessions and live demonstrations.
The event featured interview sessions of representatives from 15 companies.
