New Hostels and Staff Quarters Approved for Rajarata University

The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized the transfer of land for the construction of new hostel facilities at Rajarata University, aimed at accommodating students as well as academic and non-academic staff.

Plans include building two hostel complexes, six family units for staff, twelve bachelor quarters, and two sports courts for basketball and netball. The allocated land covers 2 acres and 9.6 perches in the Thannayakulam Grama Niladhari division under the Central Nuwaragam Palatha Divisional Secretariat.

Currently, approximately 2,070 students are enrolled in the Faculties of Medicine, Science, and Agriculture, supported by 150 staff members. The university’s facilities are located in a rural area along the Anuradhapura-Medawachchiya road, where available space is limited.

This development is expected to improve living conditions and provide adequate accommodation for both students and staff, supporting the university’s growth in a rural setting.
