National Level ICT Championship Competition 2025 – Now Open for Entries!

The National Level ICT Championship Competition 2025, an island-wide project to promote creativity, innovation and technology skills among students and educators, has been officially launched by the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka. Every year, the project provides its applicants the opportunity to demonstrate their inventive talents, technological competencies and problem-solving capabilities in the Information and Communication technology (ICT) field.

A guidebook, containing all the guidelines and instructions on the competition regarding each category has been also issued and it is mandatory for every school that teaches ICT as a main subject to participate in this competition.

The competition is divided into 3 categories based on the participant type.

1. National School Software Competition (NSSC) – Online Competition conducted by Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL).

The competition will be held under two categories and they are as follows.

I. Group 1 – Grade 6-11 (Students of 10-16 ages)

II. Group 2 – Grade 12-13 (Students of 16-19 ages)

The online computer-based competition examines students’ competitive programming skills and is held at the regional and provincial levels.

Competition guidelines

  • The applicant should have a foundational knowledge on C, C++, Java, C# in order to apply for the competition.

How to join and register for the competition

  • When completing the application, it is mandatory to complete the REGISTRATION – NSSC application form certified by the Principal and upload a scanned copy of it at the relevant location, otherwise applications will be rejected.

2. Young Computer Scientist Competition (YCS) – Organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS)

This competition will be held under 3 categories and 3 age limits as follows. (Age limits will be determined as of December 31st of the relevant year)

I. Junior Division – Grade 6-9 (Ages between 10-14)

Areas to be examined are,

  • Basic hardware integration IoT (Internet of Things) designs

  • Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning related designs

  • Robotics designs

  • Data Analytics, Big Data and Data Science

  • Interactive Websites/Applications related designs

  • Mobile Application and Computer Application related designs

  • Computer Game based applications

  • Immersive-Reality (AR,VR,MR and spatial computing) and web3 Technology

II. Senior Division (1) – Grade 10-11 (Ages between 14-16) &

Senior Division (2) – Grade 12-13 (Ages between 16-19)

Areas to be examined are,

  • Basic hardware integration IoT (Internet of Things) designs

  • Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning related designs

  • Robotics designs

  • Data Analytics, Big Data and Data Science

  • Interactive Websites designs

  • Low code/no-code platforms or Infrastructure as a code

  • Mobile Application designs

  • Immersive-Reality (AR,VR,MR and spatial computing) and web3 Technology

III. Open Competition (Junior Division) – Ages between 13-16 &

Open Competition (Senior Division) – Ages between 16-19

Areas to be examined are,

  • Clean Energy Solutions

  • (Sustainable Consumption)

  • Robotics

  • Industrializing Machine Leaning

  • Next-generation software development

  • Trusted Architecture and Digital Identity

  • Immersive-Reality (AR,VR,MR and spatial computing) and web3 Technology

Competition conditions

  • Either an individual or a group design can be submitted. The design must be essentially your own creation. (Maximum number of students in a group is 36).

  • These works can be submitted in either Sinhala/Tamil or English.

  • The submitted designs must be relevant to the theme and the message given must be a positive andmeaningful design that can be used within the school system or at an international level.

  • Although each competitor/team must submit only one design under one competition category, they may enter two competition categories.

How to join and register for the competition

  • Visit the Ministry of Education website (www.moe.gov.lk) and complete the online application form for the category that applies to you on or before 15th July of the relevant year.

  • The artwork must be uploaded using the link provided for submission on or before August 15th of the relevant year.

3. “Creative Teachers” Competition for teachers and teacher trainees – Competition implemented by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education

Teachers working in government schools and government-approved private schools, as well as teacher trainees studying Diploma in Teaching Science courses at National Colleges of Education, can apply for this competition.

This competition will be held under 2 categories.

I. ‘Creative Teachers’ Competition for Teachers

Areas where designs can be submitted

  • Basic hardware integration IoT (Internet of Things) designs

  • Artificial Intelligence-related designs

  • Robotics designs

  • Web application creation.

  • Mobile App Designs

  • Desktop App Designs

II. ‘Creative Teachers’ Competition for Academic Teacher Trainees

Areas where designs can be submitted

  • Basic hardware integration loT (Internet of Things)

  • Artificial Intelligence-related designs

  • Robotics designs

  • Web application creation.

  • Mobile App Designs

  • Desktop App Designs

Competition Conditions

  • must be a unique creation and must be self-created.

  • These works can be submitted in either Sinhala/Tamil or English.

  • The submitted designs should be relevant to the theme and the message given should be a positive and meaningful design for the school system.

  • Only one design should be submitted by each applicant.
