The Cabinet of Ministers has given approval to 16 major projects aimed at upgrading infrastructure across state universities, ensuring better facilities for students. These initiatives are part of the government’s ‘Investment Plan 2026–2030’ and will move forward following recommendations from the Department of National Planning.

Key projects include:

• Construction of a Professorial Unit and procurement of equipment for the Faculty of Medicine – Rs 3,594.14 million
• Provision of new hostel accommodations for university students – Rs 26,625 million
• Renovation of existing hostels at the University of Peradeniya – Rs 2,452 million
• Building a wastewater treatment facility for Vavuniya University hostels – Rs 219 million
• Development of a new Faculty of Business Studies building at the University of Moratuwa – Rs 1,309.42 million
• A multi-purpose building for the Faculties of Dental Health Sciences and Allied Health Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura – Rs 3,419.38 million
• Expansion of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Ruhuna, including new labs for Heavy Structures and Coastal Engineering – Rs 1,453.97 million
• Professorial Unit at Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for the Faculty of Health Sciences, Eastern University – Rs 2,279 million
• Cafeteria upgrades at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Vavuniya – Rs 64 million
• Expansion of the student cafeteria for the Faculty of Dental Hygiene, University of Peradeniya – Rs 100 million
• Construction of a medical center at Vavuniya University – Rs 45 million
• A new two-storey building at Vavuniya University – Rs 474 million
• Facilities for the Faculty of Technology at Uva Wellassa University, including labs, workshops, and lecture halls – Rs 649.80 million
• Laboratory complex for the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya – Rs 405 million
• Laboratory for the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna – Rs 2,342 million
• Six-storey building for the Faculty of Management Studies, Open University of Sri Lanka – Rs 885.80 million

These projects are designed to strengthen educational infrastructure, provide modern amenities, and support the growing needs of students across Sri Lanka’s higher education institutions.
