Future of Grade 5 scholarship Exam : Govt clarifies

Plans have been made to appoint a committee to consider whether or not to conduct the Grade 05 scholarship examination after the year 2029, Deputy Minister of Education Madura Seneviratne said. 

Addressing the Parliament today, Deputy Minister Madura Seneviratne said that it has been planned to appoint the committee to conduct a review in 2028 for this purpose. 

He further said that instructions have also been issued to the Department of Examinations regarding the conducting of the examination and creating question papers with less pressure on students sitting for the exam. 

The Deputy Minister went on to note that a decision will be made on conducting the examination after 2029, taking into account the report of the appointed committee and the reviews conducted by the Examinations Department.

He further stated that the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will not be suspended all of a sudden.

The Deputy Minister added that steps will be taken to reduce the disparities between schools and reduce the pressure on children.
