edMinds Academy Sri Lanka Marks First Anniversary with a Bold Vision for Future-Ready STEM Education

In a vibrant celebration of innovation, inclusivity, and educational excellence, edMinds Academy Sri Lanka commemorated its first-year anniversary and hosted its inaugural convocation ceremony at the Orchid Hall, BMICH, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s STEM and STEAM education landscape.

The event drew educators, parents, and industry leaders who gathered to honor the achievements of the academy’s young learners while gaining insight into edMinds’ ambitious plans for shaping the future of STEM education in Sri Lanka.

Launched in 2023 as the Sri Lankan arm of edMinds Academy Australia, edMinds has quickly become a trusted name in robotics and coding education for children aged 5 to 14. The academy blends global standards with a localized curriculum, fostering creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world application through engaging programs.

Celebrating Young Innovators

At the heart of the event was the graduation ceremony for students who completed the edMinds Kiddo Program, Kiddo Online, and Junior Program. These programs provide hands-on experience in robotics and coding through both physical and virtual classrooms. Twenty five students were recognized for their achievements, showcasing the growing talent pool of young Sri Lankan innovators.

“Today, we celebrate the curiosity, resilience, and imagination of our students. They represent the future scientists, engineers, inventors, and changemakers of our country,” said Mr. Samitha Embuldeniya, CEO of edMinds Academy Sri Lanka.

Strategic Partnerships Driving Change

A major highlight was the announcement of several partnerships aimed at expanding the academy’s impact. edMinds signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Colourful Life Skill Development Center (Pvt) Ltd, represented by Mr. Saman and Mr. Chanul Handagiri, to develop inclusive robotics programs for differently-abled children a first of its kind initiative in Sri Lanka.

In collaboration with MagicBit, a local STEM tech innovator, edMinds also announced the launch of a new AI Robo Series. These advanced programs will introduce students to AI and machine learning through simplified, age-appropriate robotics activities. “We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Uthpala Wanninayake from MagicBit as we shape a new era of education,” Mr. Embuldeniya added.

Another exciting milestone is edMinds’ nationwide teacher training initiative, designed to equip educators with the tools and confidence to deliver high-quality STEM lessons. Certification programs and school partnerships will ensure these benefits reach classrooms across the country.

Thought Leadership for a Digital Future

The event also featured a compelling panel discussion titled “Revolutionizing Education: The Future of STEM & STEAM in Sri Lanka.” Panelists included Senior Prof. Rangika Halwatura (University of Moratuwa), Dr. Upanith Liyanaarachchi (Wayamba University), Mr. Sahan Yapa (CEO, Spera Labs), and Mr. Samitha Embuldeniya. They emphasized integrating arts into STEM, early adoption of robotics in school curricula, and the need for industry academia collaboration to future proof students.

A Movement, Not Just a Moment

As edMinds Sri Lanka moves into its second year, the focus remains clear: to empower every child regardless of background or ability with the tools to thrive in a tech driven world. Backed by global partnerships, expert educators, and cutting edge learning tools like RoboRobo STEM kits, edMinds is not just educating students it’s building the next generation of innovators.
